Anthony Paul's Spin Cycle
ANTHONY PAUL PERFORMS live with three turntables and a beat machine. He holds three residencies at Ohmz, Destiny, and Vibe. He is also associated with Galactic Entertainment, Raven Productions, and The Sound Movement.
Describe a day in the life of Anthony Paul. "Dream about spinning! Wake up, spin! Brush my teeth, spin some records! Take a shower. Get out. Spin some records."
What drives you to spin for so long? Even when I'm not motivated to spin, I force myself to get up there and do one mix. And then one mix turns into four mixes, and before I know it, I've been spinning for 2 hours. When I get off there I'm just like OH YEAH! And I'm in such a good mood! It makes me feel like there is nothing wrong in the world, and I can lose myself anytime I want to.
What do you think about when you spin? I go into my own little world, still coherent to everything going on around me, like a trance. Sometimes I start dancing and get sweatier than the crowd.
How has your social life changed since you started? Get the porn beat. (Laughs) I still think I am a dork. (Laughs) I've definitely become more comfortable with who I am now. I'm happier now than I was before, because I realized that this is what I want to be doing.
